The Board of Trustees, Executive Members, Secretariat and entire membership of the Economics Association of Malawi (ECAMA) is deeply saddened by the sudden and untimely death of Professor Ben Kalua, a great scholar and teacher, on 3rd July, 2022 at Mwaiwathu Hospital in Blantyre. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, acquaintances and loved ones of Professor Ben Kalua for the loss.

Late Professor Ben Kalua was a great economics scholar and teacher. His great love for the economic transformation of the country was displayed through his unwavering willingness to share his knowledge with his students and provide candid economic policy advice to the authorities based on facts and economic best practice with determination and courage.

We thank God for his unparalleled contribution to the country at large and the economics profession in particular. The gap which he has left will not be easy to fill, but the many students who tapped on his wisdom will forge ahead with renewed determination to make sure that Late Professor Kalua’s dream of economic transformation for the country is achieved.

His expertise in defining an industrialized nation will inspire the Malawi we want by 2063. ECAMA will immensely miss the great Professor. We are very grateful and proud of his contributions to the economics profession.

May Professor Ben Kalua’s soul rest in eternal peace.
