The ECAMA Executive Director, Dr. Esmie Koriheya Kanyumbu was one of the Keynote Speakers at a webinar organised by the Youth Forum for National Transformation (YOFONAT). The webinar was organised on the topic "Public Debt and Its Impact on Youth and Women’s Economic Opportunities in Malawi".
In her presentation, Dr. kanyumbu stated that borrowing itself is not bad but should be aligned with the national development goals and should be sustainable. According to IMF, Malawi's current debt levels are in distress and unsustainable.
She continued to encourage the youths to laverage on the use of digital platforms and to join youth-led coalitions to raise awareness on how debt servicing reduces funding for education, health, employment opportunities and other development initiatives.
